F30 vs F35 vs F40: Build Quality & Design

In this section, I will compare the build quality and design of these Segway Ninebot F Series Scooters. Please note that their build have many similarities, but I will also uncover any differences (if there are) too.

1. Foot Deck

The foot decks of these scooters are not only spacious, measuring 7 inches in width, but also equipped with rubber padding. This design provides an excellent grip and serves as a shock absorber, delivering a comfortable and smooth riding experience.

2. Build Quality

All three models, the F30, F35, and F40, boast exceptional build quality. Their frames are predominantly constructed from steel, lending them impressive durability and the ability to support heavier loads.

However, it's worth noting that this robust steel construction also adds to their overall weight.

3. Max Payload

While the maximum payload advertised for the F35 and F30 is 220 lbs, the F40 boasts a higher capacity of 265 lbs. However, real-world performance considerations suggest limiting the load to 200 lbs for the F30 and F35 to optimize battery life.

Similarly, the F40s optimal performance is achieved with a load not exceeding 220 lbs.

4. Rubber Padded Bottom

Each of these scooters features a rubber-padded bottom, contributing to enhanced stability during rides. This padding helps absorb vibrations and minor shocks, resulting in a smoother and more comfortable ride.

5. Battery Placement

The battery is strategically placed within the deck of these scooters. While this placement contributes to the overall weight of the scooter, it also ensures a well-balanced ride.

6. Charging Port

For your convenience, the charging port is conveniently located on the front side of the deck, simplifying the charging process.

7. Durability

The Segway F-series scooters are renowned for their exceptional build quality, characterized by sturdy steel frames and rubber-padded bottoms.

These features ensure both durability and stability during rides, catering to riders with a wide range of weights, from 66 to 265 lbs (30-120 kg). Moreover, the motors, batteries, wires, and display consoles are all designed with long-term durability in mind, offering a reliable and lasting performance.

8. Handlebars

The handlebars on these scooters measure 19 inches in width and are not adjustable in height. They feature comfortable grips and a small, integrated display screen. The controls are intentionally minimalist, with only one button for straightforward and user-friendly operation.

9. Dimensions

Unfolded, the F30, F35, and F40 measure approximately 45 x 18.9 x 45.7 inches (1143 x 480 x 1160 mm), offering a comfortable riding posture.

When folded, they become more compact, measuring around 45 x 18.9 x 19.5 inches (1143 x 480 x 495 mm), ensuring portability.

10. Net Weight

The F30 and F35 share a net weight of approximately 33.3 lbs (15.1 kg), while the F40 weighs slightly more at approximately 34.8 pounds (15.8 kg).

Despite the minimal weight difference between the F30 and F35, the F35s high performance and power set it apart and position it as a competitor to the F40, which is notable for its lightweight design.

11. Optimal Height

The handlebar height of these scooters is designed to accommodate riders up to 63, ensuring a comfortable and ergonomic riding experience for a broad range of individuals.

12. Firmware Versions

When considering firmware versions for these scooters, it's important to note that versions earlier than 5.4.8 are often favored by those who wish to modify or customize their scooters. However, the latest firmware versions are recommended for optimal performance and safety. Versions falling in between may not offer the same advantages as the extremes.

13. Tires

Apartment Design 2023: New Trends From Famous Designers

These scooters are equipped with 10-inch anti-skid tubeless pneumatic tires.

Their generous size and pneumatic nature contribute to exceptional shock absorption, smoothing out small bumps and imperfections in normal road surfaces and even grassy terrain.

The tires offer reliable traction, even on wet and slippery paths.

Each scooter comes with an extra tire, although replacing them can be challenging and may require some effort. Finding replacement tire tubes can also be a bit challenging.

14. Front Motor

The motor in these scooters is situated within the front wheel, providing a balanced distribution of power and ensuring efficient forward propulsion.

15. Build Design

All three scooters flaunt a modern and sleek design, with dark gray coloring.

The F40 distinguishes itself with additional orange accents, enhancing its visual appeal. In terms of design aesthetics, the F40 stands out as the most eye-catching among the three, followed by the F35 and F30.

Better Build? My Opinion:

The Segway Ninebot F30, F35, F40, all of these have nearly the same build quality and designs. The F40 has a slightly cooler look. The F30 and F35 are slightly lightweight, but these factors don't make any of them stand out build-wise for now.

Performance Comparison & Review

Here I will compare the performance and its factors of the scooters. Unlike their build and features, Performance-wise they are a bit different from each other.

Apartment Design 2023: New Trends From Famous Designers

1. Motor Power

All three scooters feature a front-wheel brushless hub motor. The F30 delivers a power output of 300W under normal conditions and can peak at 700W. However, it's worth mentioning that the F30s battery depletes noticeably quicker when operating at its peak power.

In contrast, both the F35 and F40 offer 350W of power under normal conditions, with the capability to peak at 700W. The F40 fully unleashes its power for longer journeys than F35.

2. Battery and Charging

The batteries in these scooters are housed within the foot deck, adding weight to the scooters. They utilize external lithium-ion batteries and require standard 36V chargers, with support for a maximum voltage of 42V during charging.

The F30 and F35 are equipped with a 7650 mAh battery, offering a nominal energy capacity of 275 Wh. Charging the scooters typically takes approximately 5 hours, ensuring efficient turnaround times.

In contrast, the F40 boasts a larger 10200mAh battery, providing a nominal energy capacity of 367 Wh. Charging the F40 takes approximately 6.5 hours, delivering extended range capabilities.

3. Range

The advertised range of these scooters, even with regenerative braking, may not be considered impressive. In optimal conditions, the F30 and F35 offer a range of 18.6 miles, which is achieved in the slowest speed modes, on flat terrain, and with no headwinds.

The F35 experiences significant battery drain when pushed to its limits. Meanwhile, the F30 offers an average range of approximately 15 miles under optimal conditions (for riders weighing less than 200 lbs).

In contrast, the F40 stands out with a better range, boasting an advertised 25-mile range in optimal conditions (for riders weighing less than 220 lbs), with no wind and on flat terrain. The inclusion of a larger battery contributes to the F40s extended range capabilities.

4. Top Speed

The F30 achieves a top speed of approximately 15.5 mph (25 kph), making it suitable for most urban commutes. In contrast, both the F35 and F40 reach a top speed of 18.6 mph (25 kph).

While the F35s ability to maintain this speed for extended periods may vary, the F40 distinguishes itself with superior battery energy and capacity, ensuring consistent high-speed performance.

No Doubt F30 is behind the race in performance, However there are some speed hacks to make F30 faster.

5. Torque & Acceleration

One notable limitation of these scooters is their relatively slow acceleration, which may not be ideal for tackling steep hills or strong headwinds. Riders can expect a gradual buildup of speed.

Among them, the F30 exhibits the slowest acceleration, the F35 offers moderate acceleration, and the F40 provides a slightly better acceleration curve. The F40s extended range and battery capacity contribute to its improved acceleration compared to the F35.

Give these a shot Engwe Coupons.

6. Braking

The scooters are equipped with a dual braking system, consisting of a front-wheel regenerative electric brake and a back-wheel disc brake. The disc brake can be engaged by pulling the lever on the left side of the handlebar. Riders have the flexibility to adjust the disc brakes at the wheels to suit their preferences.

Additionally, the regenerative braking system can be adjusted at different levels and activates as soon as the throttle is disengaged. This feature not only enhances rider safety but also contributes to battery efficiency.

When properly adjusted, the F30 can come to a stop in approximately 10 feet, providing excellent stopping power. The F35 and F40 exhibit similar stopping distances of about 12 feet from maximum speed.

7. Hill Climbing

When it comes to hill climbing, these scooters have limitations. They can handle slopes with a maximum incline of 15%.

The F30 is not particularly well-suited for hill climbing due to its slower acceleration. The F35 and F40 offer better hill climbing capabilities, but riders should be mindful of the scooters torque limitations.

Hill climbing is most effective when riders reduce their weight, select the fastest mode, and choose the F40 for extended hill climbs. While the tires provide excellent grip for hill climbing, they are susceptible to punctures due to their tubeless design.

8. Handling & Control

All three scooters offer good maneuverability, but the F30 stands out as the most controllable scooter in this regard. Its lower speeds make it easy to handle, brake, and cruise. This characteristic makes it an excellent choice for riders who value simplicity and safety, especially if they are new to electric scooters.

The F35 and F40 also provide easy and responsive handling. Their shock absorption capabilities ensure that they can be handled comfortably on uneven terrains, and their smooth and gradual acceleration makes them enjoyable for riders of all experience levels.

Better Perfomance? My Opinion:

In terms of perfomance, the Segway Ninebot F40 stands out, but it has also a higher price. It has better power, speed, acceleration, hill climbing capabilities and range. However, its braking is not as effective as the F30 due to its increased power. Access our latest Segway Coupon Codes.

The F35 also has increased top speed and power, but still its range is its deranking factor. Like the F40, its braking is not as effective as the F30.

The F30 is the lowest in performance, but it is easiest to control and safest to ride.

Comparing Features & Details

Apartment Design 2023: New Trends From Famous Designers

1. Portability & Folding

Despite their robust build, the F30, F35, and F40 remain relatively portable. Weighing approximately 33.1 lbs (F30 and F35) and 34.8 lbs (F40), they can be carried over distances with ease.

Their folding mechanisms are user-friendly. However I have observed that the F40 requires quite some force to open the folding lock.

Although these scooters are larger length-wise compared to their performance capabilities, they can still be stored in compact spaces as luggage for transport.

2. Riding/Speed Modes

These scooters offer three riding/speed modes: Eco, Standard, and Sport.

Eco mode is optimized for efficient travel, taking various factors into account. However, it offers slower acceleration. Standard mode provides the top speed with moderate acceleration, while Sport mode unlocks peak power, offering the highest acceleration and top speed.

In Eco mode, the F35 and F40 reach approximately 9.5 mph, while the F30 achieves a slightly lower speed.

3. Adjustable Brakes

These scooters come equipped with adjustable brakes, allowing riders to fine-tune their braking preferences for added safety and control.

4. Front Light & Brake Light

The scooters are equipped with front LED flashlights, with the F35 featuring a 2.1W LED light, while the F30 and F40 boast 2.5W bright LED lights.

Activating the flashlight is as simple as tapping the power button.

Additionally, these scooters include a brake light that automatically activates and start blinking when the brake lever is engaged, enhancing safety during rides.

5. Security & Anti-Theft Features

While these scooters offer some anti-theft features such as bluetooth locking, motor locking and audible alerts, they lack advanced security measures like wheel locking or digital passcodes for an extra layer of protection.

6. Battery Management

The battery management system in these scooters plays a crucial role in enhancing safety and longevity. It offers protection against overheating, short circuits, over-current, over-discharge, and over-charge, ensuring rider safety and extending the batterys lifespan.

These batteries exhibit impressive durability, with a typical lifespan ranging from 3 to 5 years. Unlike average scooters, the quality and performance of these batteries do not degrade significantly over time.

7. Spare Tire Tube

Each scooter comes with a spare tire and tube, although replacing these components can be challenging and may require some technical expertise.

8. Additional Features & Accessories

The scooters lack certain accessories and features like phone/cup holders and rearview mirrors, and turn signals, although they can be installed separately. But the scooter does provide extra tire, tail light, BMS and water resistance.

9. Water Resistance

The scooters boast an IPX5 water resistance rating, ensuring protection against water damage. While they can handle light rain and water splashes without issue, submerging them in water or exposing them to heavy rainfall is not recommended.

Better Features? My Opinion:

In terms of features of the Segway Ninebot F30, F35 and F40, they are all equal. They only differ in perfomance, and ride comfort and quality.

"In-depth Segway F40 Review"

Ride Quality, Comfort & Experience

1. Kick Start

All three scooters require a kick start to initiate movement, lacking the "zero start" feature found in some electric scooters.

2. Handling

The scooters are fairly easy to handle, with the F30 being the most controllable scooter of the three. Because of its lower speeds, it is very easy to control, brake and cruise. With ground clearance of 10cm (3.9 inches), these scooters are quite easy to handle.

The F35 and F40 are also easy to handle scooters. As their shock absorption is good, they can be handled easily on uneven terrains. Their smooth and gradual acceleration can even give a an inexperienced person the most lovable ride.

3. Suspension

Unlike traditional scooters with conventional suspension systems, the F-series scooters employ a unique approach.

They utilize their large, pneumatic tires (measuring 10 inches) to absorb minor shocks and vibrations. The rubber-padded bottom further enhances shock absorption, resulting in a comfortable and smooth ride.

While they are not designed for off-roading, these scooters offer a pleasant riding experience on paved roads and paths compared to their competitors.

4. Off-Roading

These scooters are not well-suited for off-roading adventures due to their pneumatic tires and large size. On paved roads, pathways, or grassy surfaces, they handle minor irregularities well. However, venturing off-road reveals their limitations, as their suspension primarily relies on tire size and the rubber-padded deck.

It's important to note that some F40 models may include front suspension, making them suitable for off-roading activities.

If off-roading includes steep hills, the F40 is obviously better choice.

5. Throttle Control

All three scooters feature right-hand thumb throttles, offering simple and intuitive operation. The throttle controls are user-friendly, with a well-thought-out design.

However, it's worth noting that the F30s throttle operation may not be as smooth as the F35 and F40, particularly when used in conjunction with regenerative braking, but it then also makes it a more safer option.

"Segway F30 Review by a customer"

Better Ride? My Opinion:

For consistent but short range rides, I recommend the Segway Ninebot F30 scooter as it is not very smooth in throttle operation, and takes time to pick speed, but fairly simple and easy to handle.

For inconsistent and journeys with pauses, I recommend either the Ninebot F35 or F40 for their smooth operation and better pick.

For inconsistent and uneven terrains with steep paths, I recommend the Ninebot F40.

Value & Worth for Price

The F-series scooters of the Segway Ninebot have good value for prices considering the reputation of Ninebots excellence in durability, build quality, design and ride comfort.

The F30 is a budget scooter and has good value for money.

The F35 and F40 dont have any significant price difference, but the F35 doesn't have a good value considering its price. The F40 is a well-rounded scooter and has perfect price.

So when it comes to value for money, the F30 and F40 are good options.

Conclusion: Which One to Choose

In conclusion to the Segway Ninebot F30 vs F35 vs F40, they are all impressive electric scooters with their own unique characteristics. They share many similarities in terms of build quality and design, making them reliable and durable options for riders of various weights. However, they also have distinct differences, especially in terms of performance and ride quality.

Here's our expert opinion on which scooter to choose for different considerations:

Build Quality & Design

All three models have excellent build quality and design, with the F40 standing out for its visually appealing accents.

Performance
  • For those seeking the best overall performance in terms of power, speed, acceleration, and hill climbing, the F40 is the top choice.
  • If you prioritize a balance between performance and range, the F35 offers a good compromise.
  • The F30, while offering lower performance, is the easiest to control and safest for new riders.
Features

All three scooters have identical features, so this should not be a deciding factor.

Ride Quality & Experience
  • If you want a scooter for consistent but short-range rides, the F30 is recommended for its simplicity and safety.
  • For inconsistent journeys with pauses and a smoother ride experience, either the F35 or F40 would be suitable.
  • If you plan to ride on uneven terrains with steep paths, the F40, especially if it has front suspension, is the best choice.

Overall, I recommend the Segway Ninebot F40 when expecting long, and steep rides and better performance as it is a well-rounded scooter. It has a reasonable price according to its performance, build and features.

In the end, your choice should align with your specific needs and preferences. Whether you prioritize performance, range, or ease of use, the Segway Ninebot F-series has a scooter that caters to a wide range of riders.
